Fulham’s Tom Cairney celebrates his side’s equaliser
Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has launched a scathing attack on a section of Leeds United’s support after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw between the two teams at Craven Cottage.
Cairney, who played for Leeds’ academy until his release at the age of 16, scored a stunning late equaliser for the Cottagers to keep them in the hunt for a play-off place.
The 26-year-old has previously made no secret of his desire to get one over on his old side, against whom he has scored three times already, and celebrated as such – tweeting afterwards: “A picture says a thousand words… best moment on a football pitch tonight keep believing proud of our team tonight.”
In response to Cairney’s tweet, one Fulham supporter wrote: “Sitting on the train listening to some ****** talk about how they abused your family tonight. Think you shut them up! *****!”
To which the former Scotland Under-21 international replied: “Yeah they were abusing all the families in the cottage tonight they told me after… disgusting they’ve got no class mate! Makes it sweeter!”
It is claimed that as many as 7,200 Leeds fans made the trip to the capital, with Tim Ream’s comical own goal giving their side the lead at the break.
Kalvin Phillips was later sent off for Garry Monk’s side, who succumbed to Cariney’s long-range curler seconds before the final whistle.

The result keeps Leeds fourth in the standings, with Fulham, who have a game in hand on most of their rivals, remaining five points outside the play-off positions in seventh.
