The Cottagers will face Sheff Wed at Hillsborough a week on Saturday and Gale has spoken highly of the Owls.
Fulham legend Tony Gale has spoken highly of Sheffield Wednesday, their Championship opponents a week on Saturday, praising their team and their stadium in his column on the Cottagers official website.
After this Saturday’s league game, against West Bromwich Albion at Craven Cottage, Scott Parker’s charges head to Hillsborough – described by Gale as a “proper football ground” – where they will take on the Owls, now with Garry Monk in charge.
Wednesday were left reeling by Steve Bruce’s departure just weeks the season started but Lee Bullen did a good job as caretaker manager, claiming three wins from their first six Championship games and putting them in the top half of the table ahead of the international break.
The Owls are in action on Sunday as they travel to Huddersfield Town, whose new manager Danny Cowley was linked with the Hillsborough job, but after that they will host Fulham, who are in the top six.
“Sheffield Wednesday… is never an easy trip,” Gale wrote in his column. “I commentated on their first game against Reading, and I was impressed with them. Lee Bullen was in charge then but of course Garry Monk’s taken over now, so they’ll be hoping to have that new manager bounce.
“They’ve got some experienced players in there, and they’re especially strong in midfield. It’s away from home, and Hillsborough is what I call a proper football ground. It’s a big club and that will be one of our more difficult fixtures this season.”
Wednesday and Fulham have played 75 competitive fixtures over the years, with 32 Owls wins, 27 Cottagers wins and 16 draws, according to stats website 11v11.
