Fulham’s Neeskens Kebano looks set to stay at the club beyond this summer.

The Cottagers confirmed that the midfielder had been offered a new contract this week, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the month.

Africafootunited had previously reported that Sunderland were targeting Kebano if he was to become a free agent in July.

The 31-year-old was a regular for Fulham in the Championship, bagging nine goals and six assists in their promotion-winning campaign. The midfielder is also fondly remembered for netting two direct free-kicks during the 2020 play-offs, which led them to the top flight.

However, he has fallen out of favour since their most recent return to the Premier League and was limited to only nine starts after suffering an Achilles injury in November that kept him out for five months.

The London club are eager to keep hold of Kebano seven years on from his arrival from Genk. However, it is not yet clear whether he will agree to a contract extension in the English capital.

Neeskens Kebano isn’t a huge loss for Sunderland

The rumours regarding Neeskens Kebano to Sunderland were taken with a pinch of salt by many, with his age a talking point given the youthful look of their current crop.

While the Congo international would have brought plenty of Championship experience to the table, he would have had to perform a miracle to force his way into a very talented starting line-up at the Stadium of Light.

Tony Mowbray has the likes of Abdoullah Ba, Dan Neil and Pierre Ekwah at his disposable, while Corry Evans provides the leadership needed in the middle.

Kebano is also likely to be on around £30,000-a-week at Craven Cottage and a free transfer move wouldn’t seem as much of a bargain if he became the highest paid player at the club.
