Kevin Mbabu is set for an emotional move to Servette after links to Manchester United and West Ham United amounted to nothing.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claimed on Saturday evening that talks were advanced over a deal for Mbabu to leave Fulham for Servette.

Romano now claims that the move is a ‘done deal’ and Mbabu is already in Geneva to undergo a medical today.

Mbabu will rejoin his hometown club in an emotional move until the end of the season, securing a loan exit from Fulham.

The Swiss transfer window is open until February 15th, so Mbabu is still able to complete his move even with the Premier League window closed.

Mbabu, 27, came up through the Servette ranks before leaving for a move to Newcastle United back in 2013.

Some ten years later, Mbabu is now set for a return to his former club as he looks to get his career back on track in the coming months.

Kevin Mbabu was linked to Manchester United and West Ham United

Mbabu was a regular in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg for three seasons before completing a move to Fulham over the summer.

That switch really hasn’t worked for Mbabu, who has been stuck behind Kenny Tete and has now seen Fulham add another right back in Cedric Soares.

It’s clear that Marco Silva doesn’t really fancy the speedy Swiss international but that didn’t stop interest from other Premier League clubs.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported in January that Manchester United were eyeing a move for Mbabu.

Erik ten Hag wanted more right back cover amid injuries to Diogo Dalot and interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with Mbabu seen as a potential signing.

United made no changes at right back but maybe they will keep tabs on Mbabu at Servette.

Transfer insider Dean Jones, who was speaking to Give Me Sport, suggested that West Ham United were exploring a late deal for Mbabu too.

Again though, that amounted to nothing, meaning Mbabu must now return to Servette in order to play first-team football.

Whether this becomes a long-term move or not remains to be seen, but Mbabu really needs to impress back in Switzerland.
