Fulham are looking to bring Patrick Wimmer to the Premier League with Sacha Tavolieri reporting that Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga assist-machine is ‘high’ on Marco Silva’s summer radar.

Few players would have the confidence to even attempt a rabona assist. Even fewer would be able to pull it off. With just 26 minutes on the clock during Armenia Bielefeld’s impressive away win at Eintracht Frankfurt last year, Wimmer contorted his limbs and did his best Erik Lamela impression; truly an assist for the ages.

Now at Wolfsburg, the 21-year-old Austria international might not have made many more worldwide headlines but he’s going about his business with a quiet, almost understated excellence. With four goals and eight assists, Wimmer is one of the Bundesliga’s most influential attackers these days; adding consistency to his undoubted class.

Fulham are interested, Tavolieri writes on Twitter.

But one suspects the Cottagers would have to part with a damn sight more than the £4 million Wolfsburg paid to bring Wimmer to the Volkswagen Arena a year ago.

Fulham like Bundesliga ace Patrick Wimmer

“He’s versatile, can play on either wing. But he can also (play) as a second striker or right-back,” explains Marcel Schafer, Wolfsburg’s sporting director.

“(Wimmer) brings power, energy and pace. He also possesses great shooting ability, plays without inhibition, creates chances and has an eye for his team-mates. He wants to keep getting better.”

Wimmer has made the majority of his appearances under Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovac on the right wing. If he was to arrive at Craven Cottage, he would likely find himself in direct competition with Harry Wilson and the versatile, hard-working Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

Back in January, a stat emerged on Twitter, via Opta Franz. Wimmer, they pointed out, was averaging the third highest number of chances created per 90 minutes in Europe. Behind only PSG superstar Lionel Messi and Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne.

Some company.

“It’s nice to be compared to two world-class players,” Wimmer smiles. “I’m on the right track myself, but I still have a lot of room for improvement.”

Fulham are safe from relegation this season. Marco Silva will be eyeing further additions, however, if he is to stave off ‘second season syndrome’.
