Fulham have now stepped up the club’s interest in signing Kevin Mbabu this summer with Marco Silva’s side submitting a formal offer to Wolfsburg, according to TuttoMercatoWEB.

The Craven Cottage natives are eager to strengthen the Portuguese’s options at right-back as they prepare to return to the Premier League. Silva has identified the position as one to improve on the back of winning the Championship, having relied on loanee Neco Williams.

Fulham added Williams in the winter market from Liverpool and Silva would utilise the 21-cap Wales star in all 14 second-tier fixtures that were available to him. Only whilst the 21-year-old was unavailable due to injury did the Cottagers boss recall Kenny Tete to his side.

Tete had started as Silva’s first-choice right-back last term before suffering his own injury issues. The Dutchman then briefly returned to replace Denis Odoi before Fulham sold the Ghanaian to Club Brugge in January. Yet Tete could not remain in favour against Williams.

Now, while Liverpool have told Williams he can head back out on loan once again, per the Mirror, Silva has turned his attention to Wolfsburg with Fulham interested in Mbabu. The west London natives have also now advanced their discussions with the Bundesliga outfit.

Fulham have made Wolfsburg an offer to buy Mbabu this summer with Silva interested in offering the 27-year-old another chance in the Premier League. He previously played with Newcastle United from 2013 to 2017, but only played five times around loans and injuries.

Mbabu has since rebuilt his reputation with two sensational seasons in Switzerland at BSC Young Boys. His displays in his home country then saw Die Wolfe pay £8m in 2019, where Wolfsburg managing director Jorg Schmadtke hails him as ‘particularly strong and quick’.

Silva hopes Mbabu can now bring his pacey and robust defensive style to Craven Cottage to keep Fulham safe. The 22-cap international’s speed is his best attribute as he will often maraud down the flank, but can impact games at either end of the field with his pressing.
