The UK’s political sphere is all over the place right now.
Keeping track of the ins and outs at Downing Street is tougher than keeping up with Transfer Deadline Day, Prime Ministers and cabinet members are dropping like flies, and now Liz Truss has resigned after just 44 days.
We’ll have a new PM within a week or so, and the question on everyone’s mind is ‘who will be taking over?’
Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt and potentially even Boris Johnson could be candidates, but Fulham FC have made their own suggestion as the nation scrambles to find a competent leader.
Fulham, with their tongue pressed firmly in their cheek, have suggested that Roy Hodgson should get the keys to 10 Downing Street, and to be honest, we can’t see him doing a worse job than anyone else whose inhabited that address in recent years.
Yes, he lost to Iceland at Euro 2016, but at least he’s well-spoken and knows how to lead.
Unfortunately, Hodgson’s best work has often come in Europe, and after Brexit, the UK may not benefit from his expertise in that area.
However, after the crash of the pound, we could all probably benefit from Hodgson’s ability to work on a shoestring budget, while his low-block system doesn’t exert too much energy, so that should help solve the ongoing crisis around gas and electricity.
All Fulham fans know that Hodgson as PM with Ray Lewington as his Chancellor may be just what the UK needs right now as the government desperately looks to shore things up and survive.
Hodgson made his managerial name as a firefighter, and that’s exactly what this government needs right now, because to say that Westminster is theoretically on fire would be an understatement.
