Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic raves about Aleksandar Mitrovic

Newcastle United’s Aleksandar Mitrovic has made an early impression at Fulham.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has told The Chronicle that he thinks new signing Aleksandar Mitrovic is a ‘sensation’ after starring against Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

The Cottagers were in fine form entering Saturday’s game against Villa, having dropped just four points in nine games before adding another win to their tally against Steve Bruce’s men.

Ryan Sessegnon opened the scoring for the hosts, turning home Ryan Fredericks’ cutback, before Floyd Ayite’s long-range strike from Sam Johnstone’s mis-kicked clearance sealed a 2-0 victory.

Fulham are in blistering form right now, and will be even more dangerous once new signing Aleksandar Mitrovic gets off and running with goals following his deadline day move.

The Serbian striker had been frozen out by Rafael Benitez at Newcastle, becoming an outcast at St James’ Park despite the Magpies’ struggles for goals this season, and he was farmed out on loan to Fulham once Islam Slimani joined Newcastle.

Mitrovic made two substitute appearances for Fulham before being handed his first start on Saturday, turning in a strong centre forward performance against John Terry to help his side claim a comfortable win.

Now, Fulham boss and fellow Serbian Slavisa Jokanovic has commented on the striker’s display, telling The Chronicle that he felt Mitrovic had a ‘very godo game’ having impressed with his movement, power and hold-up play.

Jokanovic even called Mitrovic a sensation, and the Newcastle fans who clamoured for the striker to be handed more first-team opportunities by Benitez will be far from surprised that the striker is already making an impact having finally been given playing time.

“Although he didn’t score, Mitrovic played very well, a very good game,” said Jokanovic. “He’s a sensation – he’s already doing tricks. He didn’t score but his movement for the first goal was fantastic and he created the space for Sessegnon to finish with the goal. He showed quality, power and did a great job for us – holding up the ball very well and having a positive impact on the game.”

“He didn’t play for many, many, many months – he didn’t compete, so we expected we could bring him in and prepare him to be in a better shape and he can still help us in the future,” he added.
