Tom Cairney spent nine years in the Leeds youth academy.

Fulham captain and former Leeds United academy prospect Tom Cairney has sent a message to Leeds fans on Twitter after the club raised £200,000 for young fan Toby Nye’s treatment.
As a club, Leeds have been raising funds for five-year-old Toby who is in need of neuroblastoma treatment – a rare form of cancer which spreads rapidly across the body. Funds were required as the treatment is not routinely available on the NHS.
Leeds have been looking to reach the target since October, and generous donations from fans and chairman Andrea Radrizzani has seen the Yorkshire club achieve the figure.
Earlier this week, with the donations at £175,000, playmaker Samu Saiz generously decided to donate £25,000 himself. It even saw Cairney applaud Leeds on Twitter, despite his renowned dislike of the Elland Road club.
Cairney was a youth player at Leeds between 1998 and 2007, joining the Yorkshire club as a seven-year-old. His distaste towards Leeds emanates from his release as a 16-year-old, for being too small.
He was just 5ft 1in when he joined Hull City, but is now 6ft and is renowned as one of the best players in England’s second tier. He has since held a grudge against the Whites.
However, Cairney’s tweet shows just how big Leeds’ achievement of raising the funds for Toby is. He will be in attendance on Saturday as Leeds face Millwall at Elland Road – his last visit before undergoing treatment next week.
