Liverpool remain clouded in takeover uncertainty after Fenway Sports Group (FSG) decided to sell the club.
Things have gone a bit quiet recently since that news broke a couple of weeks ago, although Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports has now provided some fresh information.
Liverpool takeover could happen “sooner rather than later”
Well, Jacobs shared plenty of updates on the situation, including a comment on how Jürgen Klopp and transfers may be impacted by the uncertainty.
In short, the German will not be affected.
Jacobs claims that the next two transfer windows at Anfield are not going to be influenced by FSG looking to sell the Reds, as Klopp has been given assurances that the money is there.
The CBS Sports journalist adds that those “familiar with the process” believe “a sale may happen sooner rather than later” with one group led by an American investor already “weeks into talks” about buying Liverpool.
Jacobs adds that offers worth more than $3bn (£2.5bn) will be seriously entertained by FSG, although John Henry and Mike Gordon will not just sell Liverpool to anybody.
It is also said that FSG want to leave Liverpool in the right hands, with people who have a plan for the club going forwards.
Liverpool fans should be relieved
In our view, this update from Jacobs should put Liverpool fans at ease.
The major worry – as we have often reiterated – was that FSG would not be interested in funding any more multi-million pound signings while they have one eye on the exit door at Anfield.
However, as Jacobs claims, money has been put aside for the next two transfer windows, which means the Reds should be able to afford the midfield overhaul they so desperately need.
The only issue is that FSG are unlikely to unlock more funds if Klopp ends up needing to outbid the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid in the battle for a real headline addition such as Jude Bellingham.
Only time will tell what happens, but it seems things are developing in the background as FSG’s days on Merseyside near an end.
