Liverpool got their transfer window off to a brilliant start.
Even before June had come around, the Reds completed their first signing in the form of Ibrahima Konate in what was a £36 million deal.
But fast forward a couple of months and despite a lot of speculation, Liverpool haven’t added to their ranks further.
And according to Goal, they may not make another high-profile signing.
Neil Jones reported today that next summer, not this one, is viewed as a ‘big one’ from within the club, with people at Liverpool believing it would be a lot easier to recruit then rather than now.
And as you might expect, fans of the Anfield club aren’t delighted about this development. Here’s how they’re reacting on Twitter:
Risk
Honestly, it’s a huge gamble if Liverpool shut up shop in preparation for next summer.
Yes, they’re getting Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip back, but that’s only the defence.
What about a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield? The Dutchman, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a Bosman, has been a huge player for Klopp down the years.
And using injury-prone Naby Keita or the inexperienced Curtis Jones as his replacement, while experimenting with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as some sort of false nine, has the potential to backfire in a big way.
Liverpool never replaced Dejan Lovren last summer and that shortcut arguably cost Klopp’s side – who secured a top-four finish on the final day of the season – a more respectable title defence.
