Liverpool fans are probably paying more attention to Bayer Leverkusen games than ever before as Xabi Alonso aims to write history.
With Jurgen Klopp set to leave Liverpool in the summer, there are huge shoes to fill on Merseyside and many want it to be their former midfielder.
Jose Enrique was reacting to the suggestion that Bayern Munich, who will part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, have made their move for the 42-year-old.
That hasn’t best pleased the former left-back and he firmly blames the people right at the top of the club – Fenway Sports Group (FSG), as he posted on Instagram.
Let’s just say, the Liverpool fans and FSG, over the years, haven’t exactly seen eye to eye and that will probably never change.
But with such an iconic figure like Jurgen Klopp leaving, the powers that be at the club simply have to get this call very much correct – Sources have told HITC Football that the Reds are ‘quietly confident’ that the in-demand Spanish coach will reject Bayern Munich.
And given that Xabi Alonso is edging ever closer to guiding Bayer Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title, whilst also ending Bayern’s dominance, then it just makes the cries to get him to Anfield even louder.
Xabi Alonso – Bayern Munich or Liverpool?
“Like always, we are going to be late,” said Enrique. “He is going to go to Bayern because, like always, FSG are thinking about the baseball team instead”
FSG post Jurgen Klopp
If you compare the resources Klopp has had, compared to his rivals, especially both Manchester clubs, then the job he has done is even more remarkable.
There have been occasions when fans have felt that their manager should have been backed a lot more in the transfer market.
But he continued to plug away and delivered every trophy possible for the team, including pushing for four trophies this season.
Either way, when Klopp does leave, it’s going to be interesting to see how FSG cope and the relationship between themselves and the fans.
