James Morrison admitted that he would have considered signing for Celtic last summer with West Brom boss Tony Pulis seemingly unconvinced.
James Morrison may be West Brom’s longest-serving player but that does not guarantee him a bye into the first-team. Evidently so, with West Brom boss Tony Pulis starting him in just three of the club’s last nine Premier League fixtures.
Overall, the 30-year-old has been in the first XI on just 17 occasions in 2016/17, his lowest amount since arriving at The Hawthorns in 2007 barring last season’s injury-hit tally.
And Pulis has taken a hardlined approach to reports that Morrison could look to escape this summer, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.
“Unless someone comes in and offers an enormous amount of money for him, he can’t just walk out,” Pulis, whose signing of Jake Livermore in January pushed Morrison further down the pecking order, said. “That would have to be agreed between the two parties.”
However, you wonder whether its high time Morrison considered his future after a decade in the Midlands.
The Scotland international dallied before signing a two-year deal last summer before admitting in September that he would have considered moving to Celtic on the final day of the transfer window had West Brom not blocked the deal, the Daily Record reports.
However, after another season as a bit-part player under Pulis, it would be no surprise if Morrison would be even more receptive to offers in the coming weeks.
The question, however, is if he would fit in Celtic’s team. After all, Brendan Rodgers is hardly short of options and, since the club made their bid last summer, Stuart Armstrong, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor have all taken their game to new levels.
Furthermore, Eboue Kouassi arrived from FC Krasnodar in January.
Therefore, even if Morrison resorts to knocking on Celtic’s door, there’s no guarantee anyone will let him in.
