Luis Garcia has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the injury update on Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk.
The 29-year-old was at the receiving end of a bad challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the opening minutes of the Merseyside derby on Saturday afternoon.
The Netherlands international had to be substituted, and Liverpool have announced this evening on their official website that the former Celtic centre-back will ‘undergo surgery on the knee injury’.
According to The Guardian, Van Dijk is ‘facing several months on the sidelines’ and could even miss the rest of the season.
Former Liverpool star Garcia has taken to Twitter to give his take on Van Dijk’s situation, while the defender’s teammate Mohamed Salah hopes that he recovers soon.
Setback for Liverpool
Van Dijk is one of the best central defenders on the planet and is a world-class player.
It is a massive blow for the Reds that the former Southampton defender is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
With the summer transfer window now closed, Liverpool will not be able to bring in a new centre-back until January at least.
