Frustrated West Brom fans unlikely to be pleased with Tony Pulis’ comments

West Bromwich Albion are without a win in the Premier League since August, and Tony Pulis has been criticised by many fans.

The West Brom board may have absolutely no plans to consider Tony Pulis’ future anytime soon, but there can surely be no doubt that the Baggies fans’ frustration will almost become too loud for the hierarchy to ignore if their current form continues beyond the international break.

West Brom have not won since August and have lost their last three, leaving the side tumbling down the Premier League table and just one point above the bottom three.

The particularly uninspiring performances of late have seemingly seen the fans really turn on Pulis, so surely his assessment of what has gone wrong in recent weeks, in comments reported by the Birmingham Mail, will do nothing to alleviate the fans’ frustrations.

“We’ve been our own worst enemies,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

“We could be sat here with an extra six points easily and nobody would be criticising the three in the middle, the five at the back, the one up front or whatever.

“Looking back at the goals we have conceded, and how late they have been, it has been concentration or individual errors. That’s what has cost us.

“I don’t think it has been anything more than that.”

It may have been isolated errors that have cost the Baggies recently, but Pulis’ comments that the system itself is not the problem is arguably worrying from a West Brom perspective.

The Baggies appear to have created few chances – they have scored more than once in a league game on just two occasions all season – and the style of play has been incredibly uninspiring to watch, with the likes of Grzegorz Krychowiak, Gareth Barry and Jake Livermore, for example, a much better midfield trio on paper than it has turned out in reality.

Those who are ready to see a change of manager will undoubtedly now be more concerned that Pulis will look to persevere with a system that does not appear to be working as he sees the problem as coming from mistakes rather than from tactical problems.
