Tottenham have reportedly lost out to Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Juan Foyth.
Tottenham Hotspur were expected to seal a deal for Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth – but those plans appear to have been foiled.
Foyth, 19, has come up through the ranks with Estudiantes, and he has impressed for his club as well as his country, having featured for Argentina at the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea this summer.
Sky Sports reported on Sunday that Spurs were closing in on an agreement for centre back Foyth, and he would then go into Tottenham’s Under-23 in a bid to aid his adjustment to English football.
However, Spurs now look set to miss out out on Foyth, as El Dia in Argentina report that Paris Saint-Germain have capitalised on Tottenham’s deliberating by swooping in to land Foyth instead.
Estudiantes chief Juan Sebastian Veron is believed to have pulled the plug on negotiations with Spurs having been unhappy with the offer to pay €7million (£6.2million) up front with €3million (£2.65million).
That appears to be fairly standard for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who has been known to offer lower fees with add-ons for players, a strategy that has a hit-and-miss success rate.

Now, Tottenham fans have been left frustrated with Levy’s approach as the club face up to missing out on Foyth, with supporters suggesting that manager Mauricio Pochettino will end up becoming frustrated with Levy’s inability to sign the players he really wants.
Others continue to be unhappy with the lack of activity from Spurs this summer, with fans desperate to see Tottenham finally make a signing – but with Foyth allegedly heading to PSG, they may have to wait a little longer, though there may still be time for Spurs to resurrect a bid for Foyth before the end of the transfer window.
