Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has commented on how he feels his side are faring in comparison to last season, as reported by The Star.

The Owls’ promotion push was given a boost courtesy of their 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at the weekend, but they were brought right back down to the reality of the Championship in midweek due to a 1-1 draw against a revitalised Cardiff City side.

The game at the Cardiff City Stadium was a frustrating one for the Owls as they were forced to come from behind following Peter Whittingham’s early strike. Thankfully they managed to earn a point, but manager Carvalhal feels like they deserved more.

The draw once again showed that you cannot take anyone for granted in this division, and Carvalhal said to The Star: “If you asked me before the game if I would have been happy with one point, I would have said no.

“And after the way we play, we deserved to win in my opinion. We were the best team on the pitch.

“We are in a good position. I think we are better than last season. Not just about the points but also with the performances. I think at this moment we are playing another level to last season.

“We are progressing and playing like a big team. We came here to win and play positive football against a very difficult opponent.”

The point ensured that the Yorkshire-based side moved into the top six, and with the quality the have at their disposal fans should be quietly confident of another play-off run this year.

They certainly have a string of winnable fixtures coming up in the next few weeks as they attempt to build some momentum heading into the tough winter months.
