Liverpool striker Divock Origi says he wants to echo Everton star’s fortunes but does not feel he is too far behind.
Divock Origi has had a stop start season at Liverpool, being unable to convince Jurgen Klopp he should be a regular starter.
He has played in 25 Premier League games this season, but just seven of these have been starts.
Origi has netted four league strikes with his last coming back in December, but does have two assists in his last three matches.
Currently on international duty with Belgium, Origi confesses he is frustrated with his lack of action.
He told Nieuwsblad: “Sometimes it’s frustrating that you can not express your qualities on the pitch.
“I believe in myself and I will get through. But many sit on the bench. All I can do is work hard.”
Origi was also quizzed whether he feels he is a long way behind Everton forward Romelu Lukaku, his international teammate who is a first team regular.
He responded: “I do not feel it to be. I know what I can do. I play at a top club because that’s Liverpool.
“Romelu is indeed doing well, because he works very hard and is focused on the right things. I would want the same progression as Romelu.”
Lukaku is ahead of him in the pecking order for Belgium, but he is also two years older than the Liverpool forward.
Origi may not have convinced Jurgen Klopp that he deserves to lead the line every week just yet, but he is certainly in his thoughts and had appeared in all but four of their league games, which has to be encouraging.
He needs to finish the season strongly and get among the goals, to ensure he does not find himself forgotten about when the Reds plot their summer transfer business.
