Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been chatting about Alessandro Bastoni and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Italian centre-half has been the subject of much speculation over the past few weeks with both Spurs and Manchester United strongly linked with a move for the Inter Milan defender.

Antonio Conte knows him well from his time at San Siro, while Manchester United are desperate for defensive reinforcements after a woeful season.

Both teams want Bastoni, but according to Jacobs, Tottenham are more confident than United about signing the centre-back.

What’s been said?

Jacobs spoke about Bastoni and Spurs.

“I think that Tottenham have definitely made an approach to him and they remain the frontrunners, and Manchester United are fully aware that they need to strengthen in that area, but at the moment they are less advanced in the deal,” Jacobs said.

“Bastoni is clearly a player that specifically appeals to ten Hag, but Tottenham would be more confident of making that deal,” Jacobs said.

Not likely

Tottenham may feel as though they’re more confident of getting this deal done than Manchester United, but it has to be said, it’s looking unlikely right now.

Indeed, Bastoni’s agent has claimed that the defender won’t be on the move this summer, and while there’s still lots of time for things to change, Tottenham may be best off switching their attentions to other targets at this point.

Bastoni is a fantastic player, but unfortunately for Spurs, Inter hold all of the power in these negotiations, and if they don’t want to sell, there’s very little that Fabio Paratici or Conte can do about it.

Bastoni may be one for next summer as he enters the final year of his Inter contract.
