Speaking on the 1874 Podcast, Gregg Evans has delivered an interesting transfer update on Aston Villa, claiming that the Villans have been assessing a couple of new attacking options.
If there’s one position Villa need to bolster this month it’s their attack. Ollie Watkins has been doing a fine job of leading the line, but Dean Smith’s side have a lack of depth up there, with Wesley struggling with injury and Keinan Davis lacking experience.
Fortunately, it seems as though Villa have been eyeing up a couple of players to bolster their attack. However, Evans says that it wouldn’t surprise him if they didn’t make any signings this month.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the end of the month comes and Villa haven’t signed anybody. From what I’m told Villa are assessing a couple of attacking options and possibly a striker, but again, don’t sort of expect a striker to come in or an attacker.
“It’s just that if the right opportunity comes up and Villa feel they can get good value for money, they might go for it.”
This is certainly an interesting update.
Villa spent big once again in the summer, so it’s no surprise to hear that they’re not overly keen to do any business this month. However, if the right deal comes along they could spring into action.
The fact that they’re eyeing up attacking options is a good sign as it indicates that Johan Lange and Dean Smith know where the squad needs bolstering, but whether or not any deals get done remains to be seen.
Hopefully, the Midlands club can find a deal that will make sense for them financially.
