Neil Lennon told talkSPORT ‘from what I gather’ the Everton boardroom are ‘split’ on appointing Rafa Benitez as their manager.

The ex-Scottish based boss thinks that Benitez has ‘very similar traits’ to the recently departed Everton boss, Carlo Ancelotti.

It’s pretty obvious why Benitez potentially becoming Everton manager would be such a talking point, with some rumours suggesting that he is now expecting a contract offer from the club.

The problem Everton face is that they need a safe pair of hands and they have to move forward during these coming seasons, especially with their new stadium on the horizon.

Nonetheless, this is what ex-Celtic boss, Lennon, had to say about Benitez.

“Surely Benitez is just a very similar trait to Ancelotti,” said Lennon. “From what I gather, the boardroom is split on Benitez coming in.

“I think this is going to be very, very controversial. It’s not Everton what needed, at the minute. They need a bit of calm. They need a guy to come in and clear the squad. Get a certain playing style because they are all over that as well.

“And get a bit of time to build. But I don’t think Moshiri wants that. He has spent a lot of money on a lot of players that haven’t worked out.”

Whilst Euro 2020 is taking centre stage in the footballing world, the club matters on the domestic scene aren’t gaining as much attention.

But with players, who aren’t on international duty, due back for pre-season training in a few weeks then an appointment needs to be made.

Everton were put on the back foot when Ancelotti left in an unexpected manner, but they cannot afford to go down the route of Tottenham and shoot themselves in the foot.

They have been looking for a manager for over two months now, and if the Toffees supporters are potentially worrying, then they can look across towards North London because it can always be worse.
