Jared Verse opens up about his transition to the Browns
Verse said he was initially upset by the trade that sent him from Los Angeles to the Browns, but added that he appreciated how much Cleveland valued him and is motivated to hit the ground running with his new team.
He’s now using that frustration as motivation. Verse has every reason to be confident after what he achieved last season. The former first-round pick out of Florida State became an instant star for a Rams team with high expectations.
While Sean McVay’s side fell short in the postseason, Verse still managed 15.5 sacks. It was a breakout year for him, but it also made him a valuable trade asset when the Rams decided to go all-in on landing star Myles Garrett from Cleveland this offseason.
The Rams have been open about their decision-making process, explaining they didn’t want to include Jared Verse in any trade talks at first. The move ultimately landed them Myles Garrett, one of the top players all-around in football.
Given how hard it is to find elite talent like Garrett at that position, it’s no surprise Los Angeles went for it – even if it meant giving up such a promising young player on defence.

The thinking behind Cleveland’s decision
Jared Verse was the key player in the deal that sent Myles Garrett to Los Angeles, with the Browns also picking up a collection of high draft picks.
For someone who had just been stellar on a title contender, being shipped off to a team in transition was always going to be a tough pill to swallow, even if it came with promises of being a centrepiece. Verse’s openness about how it felt is completely understandable.
It was a bet on his rise. The Browns decided to move an ageing, expensive star in Garrett for a younger, cheaper, up-and-coming one in Verse, plus premium draft picks to flesh out the roster. He may not be there yet, but the potential is real: an athletic 6’4” edge entering his prime on a rookie contract.
A talented young player who feels he was moved against his wishes is exactly the kind who plays with something to prove.
Verse turning the initial sting into fuel is the best-case version for Cleveland, which needs him to be both a building block and an identity for a defence in transition. The Rams got their headline veteran. The Browns are betting the angry young star they got back ends up being the better long-term piece.
