Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about Harry Kane’s future after reports linking him to Manchester United this week.
Romano says that, understandably, Tottenham’s priority is to once again make an effort to keep Kane at the club, but interestingly, Romano says that the striker’s future is also strongly linked to Antonio Conte’s future.
There has been a lot of concern as of late about Conte potentially jumping ship this summer, and Romano says that he can’t see Conte staying at the club if Kane is sold.
What’s been said?
Romano shared what he knows about Kane.
“What I am told about Harry Kane, particularly from Tottenham’s side, is that his future is really linked to Conte’s future. I don’t see Conte staying at Tottenham without Harry Kane as part of his team. He wants that ambition and that winning mentality, and a winning mentality for Tottenham is to keep Kane at the club and to make him a key player for the present and the future,” Romano said.
“For Conte it is really important to keep Kane, and the plan at the moment is to make an effort to keep Kane at the club, this is the intention for Levy, so it won’t be easy.”
Could stay
In the summer, it looked nailed on that Kane would be leaving Spurs in pursuit of trophies, but now, things look rather different.
Manchester City seem to have set their sights on Erling Haaland, negating the need for Kane at the Etihad, and while Manchester United are reportedly keen, the Red Devils are arguably further away from challenging for silverware than Spurs.
United have a disjointed squad, no manager and seemingly no direction.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have one of the best coaches in the world, and their transfer strategy seems to have improved since the arrival of Fabio Paratici.
Spurs will try to keep Kane at the club, and it wouldn’t be shocking if their attempts are successful.
