Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared an update on Kylian Mbappe’s future amid ongoing links to Real Madrid.
It’s no secret that the Spanish giants want to sign the Frenchman this summer, and it sounds as though they may have a real shot at getting him to the Bernabeu.
What’s been said?
Castles gave an update on Mbappe’s stuation.
“It’s just a fascinating situation and it’s so central to most of the stuff happening in the transfer market this summer. Real Madrid want Kylian Mbappe above any other player and they’ve shaped their entire transfer policy around it. We reported months ago that Mbappe would tell PSG that they have an option to either let him go this summer and make some money or that he’d go, or he would go for nothing in a years’ time, and the expectation was that PSG would take the former approach,” Castles said.
“The latest information I’m getting from sources close to Mbappe, as to where matter stand, paints a very interesting picture about how PSG are run as a club, their ownership by Qatar and the way they make decisions, which is not always shaped towards success on the field, a lot of it is about pride. In Mbappe’s case I’m told that the offer PSG have made for him to stay is not one he objects to financially, but his decision is not about money, his decision is about a sporting project, and he feels at the moment with the way PSG are set up he will not win the Champions League if he remains and he will not achieve his ambition to be recognised as the greatest footballer in the world and win a Ballon d’Or.”

Chance
If Mbappe’s dream is to win the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or then there may not be a better club for him than Real Madrid.
Yes, he’s been linked to Liverpool, and while he’d be a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side, it’s hard to see him ending up at Anfield, especially with the Reds’ attack being so potent already.
Madrid, on the other hand, are the type of team who would splash out on this Galactico-style signing, and their pedigree when it comes to winning UEFA’s top honour speaks for itself.
Los Blancos will be perennial Champions League contenders and if Mbappe heads to the Spanish capital there’s every chance he’ll be able to win a Ballon d’Or in the coming years.
