Emmanuel Frimpong has reacted on Twitter to Arsenal’s defeat by Tottenham Hotspur tonight.
The Gunners visited their North London rivals with the knowledge that victory would’ve guaranteed them a top-four finish in the Premier League and with it, Champions League qualification.
In contrast, Spurs knew that they had to win to keep alive their hopes of returning to Europe’s elite competition.
And indeed, Tottenham were far more motivated as Antonio Conte’s side recorded an emphatic 3-0 victory over their bitter rivals.
Two goals from Harry Kane, either side of Rob Holding’s red card, gave the Lilywhites a comfortable lead at the break, before Son Heung-min scored immediately in the second half to kill off any slim chances that the Gunners had of a comeback.
Here’s what former Arsenal midfielder Frimpong wrote on Twitter at the midway point:
Arsenal’s last two games
Mikel Arteta’s side are away to Newcastle United on Monday night and then home to Everton on the final day of the campaign, on Sunday week.
Problem is, Arsenal might already be fifth by the time they visit St James’s Park, with Spurs hosting Burnley one day earlier in what could and should represent three points.
Tottenham’s final game of the season is away to relegated Norwich City and you have to say, Conte will be the more optimistic of both managers regarding Champions League qualification.
Frimpong is right – nothing is ever straight forward for his former club, but Arteta would want to hope and pray that Arsenal’s last two games pass without incident.
Otherwise, Tottenham will be in the Champions League.
