Alan Shearer has tipped Mohamed Salah to get even better at Liverpool, labelling it a ‘frightening prospect’.
Earlier this summer, Salah drew a line under his long-term future by signing a new contract at Anfield.
In doing so, the 30-year-old stemmed the tide of seemingly endless speculation about the prospect of him leaving Liverpool, with his last deal only running until next summer.
And Shearer believes that the clarity will be a weight off his mind, enabling him to perform to an even higher standard now this season.
He told BBC Sport: “A big reason for that is Mohamed Salah signing a new contract, which is absolutely huge for them and will be a big weight off his mind too.
“We might even see Salah playing better now, which is a frightening prospect for Premier League defences.”
Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool contract
There’s no doubt that Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool contract will allow him to play with a little more freedom.
But can he really get even better?
It’s possible, for sure, but it doesn’t seem all that likely.
Last season, the former Chelsea attacker netted 31 goals across all competitions and although that’s pretty par for the course for Salah, this year will be his first without having Sadio Mane as a teammate.
The Senegal international has joined Bayern Munich and it remains to be seen if Liverpool’s triumvirate is equally as potent with Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz supporting Salah in attack.
Jurgen Klopp’s side kick off their Premier League title bid with a trip to Fulham on Saturday.
