Gary Neville told Sky Sports that Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, would have been ‘frightened to death’ at missing out on the now-disgraced European Super League.
Tottenham were one of 11 teams plotting breakaway into a so-called European Super League, even though they are sitting outside of the top four and have never lifted domestic football’s greatest ever trophy before.
Other English sides, after they pulled out, apologised for their actions, the same tone hasn’t been delivered by those in Tottenham’s boardroom.
And whilst Neville was pretty forthright in his thoughts at this proposed ESL plan, he seemingly understood why Levy wanted to enter that money-grabbing party in the first place.
“You mentioned during the game that Daniel Levy that he’s English,” said Neville.
“We know Daniel Levy, he will have been frightened to death at missing out on the money.
“Spurs have taken on over a £1bn stadium. And to be offered that chance to go into this league, knowing that there was a binding contract in place and all the other five were in it then I do have a little bit of understanding that they are looking at it thinking ‘I am not sure it’s quite right’.
“What if I don’t go in? That idea of what if I don’t go in. Manchester City the same.”

Tottenham, just like the other so-called top six English teams, have put themselves in serious bother.
Whilst Manchester City can lift the League Cup and take the limelight away from the owners, those in Tottenham colours couldn’t.
Worryingly for Spurs, it does seem as though this situation will only get worse because their on-field performances aren’t exactly providing making their fans jump about with joy.
