Thierno Barry has been in good form lately, scoring three times in his last four league matches, which has helped Everton pick up points against Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Wolves and Aston Villa.

Despite that run, David Moyes is still looking to strengthen the attack. Beto’s record of two goals in 22 league games has not been enough to solve the team’s scoring issues.

Everton have shown interest in Youssef En-Nesyri, though the Morocco international is not convinced about moving to England.

In the meantime, Il Matino reports that The Friedkin Group have turned their attention towards Romelu Lukaku.

According to the Italian publication, Everton have asked Napoli if the Belgium international could be available during the current window.

Lukaku – who scored 87 goals in 166 appearances for Everton before a £75m move to Manchester United in July 2017 – has yet to feature this season as he continues his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.

Even though Lukaku is nearing a return to fitness, the answer from Napoli was negative.

Il Matino reports there is “no way” Lukaku will leave Naples this month. The expectation is that he will finish out the season with Napoli before deciding on his future in the summer.

The 32-year-old remains committed to Antonio Conte for now, but with only one year left on his contract after this season, decisions will need to be made by all parties involved.

Everton fans are split on Romelu Lukaku’s return

Lukaku sent Everton fans a message of support after the club played their final game at Goodison Park, wishing them well as they moved on to their new home.

But his relationship with the fanbase took a hit not long after his departure, following a £75m move to Manchester United in July 2017.

Lukaku cupped his ear toward the Everton supporters after scoring for Manchester United in a 4-0 win at Old Trafford. He also shushed the away end later in the match, just after setting up Henrikh Mkhitaryan for another goal.

“It’s just a bit of banter,” he explained. “With the free-kick I missed, they booed me. It’s just football.”

Given how strong feelings can run in football and how those moments still linger for some, not everyone would be on board with seeing him back at Everton, despite what he achieved there before leaving.
