Freund believes Tottenham’s Kane will be Ronaldo’s successor

Tottenham face Real Madrid in Group H of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Tottenham icon Steffen Freund has told German newspaper Bild that Harry Kane is the perfect player to replace Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs face Real Madrid in Group H of the Champions League on Wednesday night at Wembley, with the chance to qualify for the knockout stages of the elite competition.

The Times reported earlier this month than chairman Daniel Levy would sell 24-year-old Kane but only for a fee worth more than the £200million figure that saw Neymar join Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

Freund, 47, who made 131 appearances for Spurs in all competitions before becoming assistant head coach in 2013, believes Kane possesses all the attributes necessary to replace Ronaldo.

“Kane can be Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor,” Freund said. “He has had an incredible development and gets better every season.

“Passing, heading, shooting technique, dribbling, finishing, while Harry is not perfect, in any of these areas, he can do something exceptional and has no weaknesses at all. That makes him the most complete striker in the world.

“He carries Tottenham with his heart. But Harry is a thoroughbred professional and always wants the maximum success.”

England international Kane is expected to start for Spurs on Wednesday night, despite missing Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford at returning to training on Tuesday.

Spurs are yet to beat Zinedine Zidane’s side in their history, suffering three losses and two draws but could put that right by claiming three points and qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.
