Leeds linked boss touted for an opportunity he may be better suited for.

Over the past 24 hours Leeds United have been linked with a move for manager Ruben de la Barrera, with Paddy Power slashing the odds on him replacing Paul Heckingbottom.

De La Barrera is the current boss of Cultural Leonesa, who sit 17th in the Spanish second division.

He may well be heading for the exit at Leonesa, but don’t count on Leeds United necessarily being his next destination.

Spanish news outlet Diario Vasco report he is a credible contender for the Real Sociedad job.

The job is a great opportunity for 33-year-old De La Barrera if it comes his way.

Sociedad finished in 12th place in La Liga and have a talented squad including players like Adnan Januzaj and Asier Illarramendi, formerly of Manchester United and Real Madrid respectively.

De La Barrera has huge experience in Spanish football despite his young age, working as a manager in the lower divisions since 2010 and as a youth coach for six years before that.

Switching to Leeds would take him completely out of his comfort zone, and would be a big culture shock for him.

There is more risk for Leeds to bring him in than there would be for Real Sociedad, who experienced the reverse when they disastrously appointed David Moyes.
