David Alaba has said that he is leaving Bayern Munich, as quoted on Sky Sports, and there is no surprise that Liverpool are among the clubs reportedly interested in the defender.

The Guardian reported in January that Real Madrid are leading the race for the Austria international, but Liverpool have been in contact with the 28-year-old’s representatives and want to bring him to Anfield in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer.

Earlier this month, well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on Twitter that Alaba has a verbal agreement with Madrid.

ESPN has reported this morning that although the defender and his agent Pini Zahavi have ‘a verbal financial agreement’ with Madrid, the Bayern star is ‘listening to other offers and will decide where to go’.

The report has added that Liverpool and Chelsea are ‘pushing the hardest’ to sign Alaba.

Anything could happen

Unless an official agreement has been reached between Madrid and Alaba, anything is possible.

Liverpool fans should stay positive about seeing the Austria international play for the Reds next season and beyond.

The 28-year-old, who is a very versatile player and can operate in central midfield, at right and left wing, left-back and centre-back, would make Liverpool a better team at the back.

According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old has featured as a central defender in 21 games this season.
