According to a report from Het Belang van Limburg earlier today, Tottenham have asked Roberto Martínez to be their new manager.

The Belgian news outlet claim it’s looking increasingly unlikely that the 47-year-old will still be in charge of Belgium after EURO 2020 has ended.

Het Belang van Limburg add that the offer from Tottenham is an enticing one, and by the sounds of it, Martínez will accept.

Some Tottenham fans might feel slightly underwhelmed by this news, although at least the Spaniard has experience of managing in the Premier League.

Martínez picked up 81 Premier League wins during spells at Wigan and Everton.

He also lifted the FA Cup with the Latics after pulling off a shock 1-0 win over Manchester City in the 2013 final.

What went wrong for him in England?

However, some might be concerned at the way in which his time at Goodison Park ended.

Martínez was hounded out of Everton after three years on Merseyside, as supporters planned protests against his management (BBC).

He was then swiftly hired by Belgium, where he has done a good job in fairness. The Tottenham target has guided Belgium back to No.1 in the World Rankings.

However, international football is vastly different to club football. Martínez also has the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne to help him out.

It’s certainly a risky decision from Daniel Levy to offer the 47-year-old the chance to replace José Mourinho.

It’s also not the most attractive job for Martínez, or any manager, to take right now.

Of course, Tottenham have huge potential, and are a London based club with fantastic players.

However, whichever manager replaces Mourinho will have to get the disgruntled supporters onside quickly, and will also have to deal with Harry Kane’s future.

We certainly don’t envy whoever Levy appoints!
