Liverpool are interested in signing Milan Skriniar in the January transfer window, and so is Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho, according to ESPN.

ESPN have reported this morning (8:30am) that Liverpool are looking into the possibility of signing Skriniar from Inter Milan in January as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

With Van Dijk to miss most of the season, the Reds are looking at the 25-year-old Slovakia international central defender, according to the report.

Tottenham are also claimed to be interested in the former Sampdoria star, with head coach Mourinho still keen on him despite failing to bring him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool move in January?

With defending English champions Liverpool eyeing the Premier League title yet again and also aiming to win the Champions League this season, Anfield would be a more appealing destination for Skriniar than Spurs.

Of course, when Van Dijk returns from injury, the Netherlands international would go straight into the starting lineup.

However, with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez not exactly world-class defenders, Skriniar could establish himself alongside Van Dijk as the long-term centre-back pairing at Liverpool.
