Kylian Mbappe has been told that he’d become a ‘king’ if he were to play under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The Paris Saint-Germain hitman has been tentatively linked with a move to Anfield in recent months.
Mbappe did himself no favours in this respect last month when he admitted that he was flattered by the speculation about a switch to Liverpool [Le 10 Sport].
With the Reds being reigning European champions, there is only a handful of clubs on the continent that would represent an upgrade on his situation in the French capital.
And former France international Willy Sagnol has told Sport Bild that Mbappe – who has 90 goals in 120 games for the Ligue 1 giants – would move to the next level in terms of development if he worked under the famed German manager.
Sagnol said: “This club has a big advantage: With Klopp you have a coach with whom every player in the world would like to work. Mbappe would have to adjust under him: he demands a lot of defensive work from his strikers, which Mbappe is not yet good at.
“But he can learn that, especially from a guy like Klopp. No question: Mbappe could become a king with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.”
Do Sagnol’s comments matter that much in regards to Mbappe actually joining Liverpool? No, not really.
King or not, Klopp isn’t going to be able to drop nine figures on bringing the 21-year-old to Anfield for the foreseeable future, especially not with how the climate in football is right now.
