The Brazilian ace left Liverpool for Barcelona 18 months ago.
According to a report from French media outlet Le 10 Sport, Liverpool are interested in making a shock move for their former player Philippe Coutinho this summer.
The Brazil international left the Reds for Barcelona in January 2018 for a fee believed to be worth £142 million, according to BBC Sport, but he has really struggled at the Camp Nou, racking up just 21 goals and 11 assists in 76 appearances in all competitions for the Catalan giants.
Whilst Coutinho has struggled, Liverpool have gone from strength to strength in his absence.
The £142 million that the Merseyside outfit received for the 27-year-old was reinvested into some real top quality players including Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita and Fabinho.
It could be argued that Liverpool lacked that little bit of magic in key games last season, however – something that eventually cost them the title.
So could Coutinho returning to Anfield actually be feasible?
Well it would cost Liverpool a pretty penny to start with.
Barca won’t want to make a big loss on the Brazilian, so if the Reds want him, they will have to be prepared to spend big.
There is also the small matter of the boos that he received when playing against the Reds for Barca in the Champions League last season.
On his day, however, Coutinho is still a magnificent footballer, and if he was to return to Merseyside, he would surely be welcomed back with open arms by Liverpool fans, especially if he started to produce the goods again on a regular basis.
As things stand though, a move back to Anfield for the Brazilian still seems highly unlikely.
