According to L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur target Jonathan Bamba could miss out on a summer move after a poor end to the season with Lille.
Lille may have won the Ligue 1 title after a stunning campaign, but that doesn’t mean that everybody involved has always excelled.
Winger Bamba managed six goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season, but his last goal came way back on January 17th, and he’s now on an 18-game goal drought.
In terms of assists, Bamba did pick up two against Lens earlier this month, but only four have come in the period of his goal drought.
2021 has been a difficult year for Bamba, as he has failed to hit the heights he showed in the first half of the season.
It’s now suggested that the 25-year-old wide man is at risk of missing out on a summer move because he was ‘very disappointing’ towards the end of the season.
Sky Sports reported in March that Spurs have picked out Bamba as a summer target, viewing him as a possible replacement for Gareth Bale, despite playing on a different flank.
Whereas Bale is left-footed and cuts in from the right, Bamba is right-footed and cuts in from the left, meaning he fits more as competition for Son Heung-min than as a direct replacement for Bale.
Steven Bergwijn is of a similar profile too, meaning a move for the speedy Bamba was a surprise in the first place – and may possibly be even more of a shock after his end to the season.
