Whoever played a part in Aston Villa securing the free transfer of Boubacar Kamara during the summer transfer window, after his exit from Marseille, then they should all pat themselves on the back.
The 23-year-old produced a monstrous display – again – this time during Aston Villa’s 2-0 win at Antonio Conte’s Tottenham on New Year’s Day, as Unai Emery’s return to north London ended with delight.
Kamara was a key figure and performer behind those points, not forgetting that all-important clean sheet, the first under the Emery reign – it wasn’t just the Villa faithful raving about his performance, but the French media describing him as a ‘complete general’, as Get French Football News (GFFN) posted on Twitter.

Tottenham might have had Harry Kane and Son Heung-min out on the pitch, but as Spurs legend, Glenn Hoddle stated, that’s the ‘worst’ he has seen those two play.
A lot of it was down to how Emery set-up Villa and the dominant nature in which Kamara and Douglas Luiz ran proceedings from deep.
Well, back in his homeland, Kamara is getting rave reviews for his performance, with Get French Football News (GFFN) thinking he is showcasing signs of becoming ‘one of the best 6s in the world’.
ONE OF THE SIGNINGS OF THE SUMMER
Given that Kamara was brought in as a free transfer, there hasn’t been much of a spotlight on his move to Villa.
The Midlands outfit beat Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid to his signature and it was a serious coup because he is a Champions League-quality player.
Not only was his performance against Spurs outstanding, but even during the defeat against Liverpool on Boxing Day, he proved his worth and he has been doing so since he joined the club.
Villa’s aim is to get back into Europe and beyond, if they are to do that, then someone like Kamara is going to play a huge role.
