According to reports Eliaquim Mangala has agreed to join Manchester City.
French defender Eliaquim Mangala has reportedly agreed to join Manchester City.
The FC Porto defender has been linked with a whole host of clubs in recent times, with City’s strongest English competition said to come from Manchester United. But reports in both England and Portugal suggest it is Manuel Pellegrini who has got his man.
Goal ran an exclusive on Friday evening claiming the 23-year-old has finally opted for a move to the Etihad for €40million. And in the early hours of Saturday morning, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo published a report backing up those claims.
Until recently, Mangala was on World Cup duty with France, but following his country’s elimination he is now free to arrange his club future.
The centre-back was tipped to move to the Etihad Stadium back in January, in a double-deal with his then-teammate Fernando.
While that failed to materialise, the midfielder has since moved to the Blues and it now appears Mangala will follow.
The defender made 42 appearances for Porto last season, scoring five goals and setting up another two.
If he does arrive, he will add significant quality to Pellegrini’s back-line, and could well form an outstanding and long-term partnership with City skipper Vincent Kompany.
