Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman has explained where he wants his team to improve next season.

Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman has called on his players to improve a negative record from last season, with comments covered by the club’s official website.

The Scot has admitted that he’s been left frustrated by the late goals his team conceded away from home last season, which he feels had a big impact on their overall league position.

He’s also explained that he sees no reason why his team can’t travel to Brighton for their opening game of the Championship season with the full expectation of taking three points away from the game.

“We need to make sure we pick up more points away from home,” he told nottinghamforest.co.uk.

“I think we gave away eight points away from home last season, sloppy goals late in games. We can be better and we need to make sure we start on Friday night.”

“It’ll be a difficult challenge for us but there’s no reason why we can’t go down there and win.”

A good start is key

If Forest’s back four can hold firm, keep some clean sheets and build a little bit of momentum then it gives the team a better chance of getting off to a good start.

Some sides may not consider Forest a realistic threat for the top six in the Championship because they haven’t been able to throw a great deal of cash at improving the squad, with more players coming in.

However, a good start with impressive performances and clean sheets helps the team to send out a message.

It will also give them an advantageous position, which they can then look to defend, placing the pressure on other sides where the expectation may be even greater and that in turn could force mistakes for Forest to take advantage of.
