Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman has explained what he noticed about Chuba Akpom’s debut for the club.
Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman told Forest Player what he noticed about Chuba Akpom’s debut for the club.
Akpom played a full 90 minutes in the defeat to Wolves last week with Freedman suggesting that the Arsenal owned star was left isolated up front, with a need to get more support into him quickly.
“I thought he looked good, I felt he was a little bit isolated at times – He’s shown his quality at times, he’ll work his way to getting shots off a bit better,” said Freedman.
Wolves deserve credit for getting Akpom isolated, which was an effective way for them to neutralise the natural pace and the threat, which comes with that.
Forest need to try and find a way to get him into the game more if he starts this afternoon against this Brentford.
Forest can move possession forward quickly to try and get him into the game as soon as possible and it’s important the side tries to create the opportunities for him to get into the game frequently.
Akpom’s quality in terms of the way he shots and his finishing ability will be refined the more he plays.
He arrived at Forest with a good record in the Arsenal under-21 ranks but the step up to playing regularly for a hardened Championship side in a competitive division is something that was always going to take him time to get used to.
Hopefully, he can thrive with Forest playing under little pressure in terms of the top six and hopefully, the boss will have already worked with him over ways he can improve ahead of the game later.
