Matt Murray has predicted that Arsenal will be selling Bernd Leno once the summer transfer window opens.

The Germany international is a peripheral figure at Arsenal these days following the roaring success of Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale took over from Leno as the Gunners’ number one goalkeeper in September and has looked an extremely reliable figure between the sticks.

With Leno reduced to being a spectator these days, there was speculation about him leaving North London during the January transfer window, though he wound up staying put.

However, ESPN reported toward the end of the window that Arsenal had signed New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner, who’d be arriving this summer.

And Murray, a former Wolves stopper, told Stadium Astro that he believes Turner’s arrival is an indication that the 29-year-old – who cost £22 million under Unai Emery – will be moving on.

He told Stadium Astro: “I believe they’ve got Turner to come in from the MLS. I imagine Leno will move on. That should free up some money.”

Logical?

Well there’s certainly a debate to be had.

You can’t argue that Leno needs to leave Arsenal for the sake of his career because honestly, Ramsdale won’t be giving up the gloves anytime soon.

However, Turner is entirely unproven in European football – let alone England.

Leno is only number two because Ramsdale is absolutely sensational, not because he’s a poor goalkeeper.

If the former Sheffield United player got injured tomorrow, Arsenal would still have a pretty reliable deputy in the form of Leno.

Turner, as mentioned, hasn’t proven a thing in football outside the MLS and therefore it’s a risk to replace a stalwart like Leno with him.
