Reto Ziegler could prove to be a bargain for Leeds.
Leeds United’s interest in Swiss free agent Reto Ziegler could prove to be an inspired move.
Ziegler played for Tottenham Hotspur a decade ago as a left-back but in recent seasons he has flourished as a central defender.

Last season he played a key role for Swiss side FC Sion in central defence, making 31 appearances.
He netted eight goals, which all came in a remarkable run before October which saw him lead the Swiss Super League as top scorer at that stage.
Ziegler also captained Sion last season, demonstrating leadership skills which could see him forge an effective partnership with Pontus Jansson in Leeds’ defence.
The 31-year-old has played in Russia, Italy and Germany in his career as well as England and Switzerland, and would not likely face any issues adapting to Championship football given his vast experience.

He may be just the sort of signing Leeds need in terms of depth, and he would compete with Everton loanee Matthew Pennington and Liam Cooper for a first team spot in the centre, while his ability to play left-back could also be vitally important.
Fellow Swiss defender Gaetano Berardi is the current first choice in the position and the extra competition could push both players on.
Leeds really need another centre-back and a left-back. Getting Ziegler, a player who can do both, is ideal, and especially on a free transfer, perhaps saving cash to buy one more striker.
