The Uruguayan would be a useful addition to the West Ham United squad this summer.
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has managed to salvage his side’s summer transfer window, with a whole host of impressive signings over the past week or so, but there is still room for further improvement from a squad depth perspective.
One area in particular where the Croatian would like to bolster is his central defensive department, especially if he opts to play with three centre-backs, what with Winston Reid’s ongoing injury problems, Jose Fonte’s questionable form and James Collins set to turn 34 later this month.
With this in mind, West Ham should consider a move for Martin Caceres, who is available on a free transfer, following his release from Southampton this summer.

The 30-year-old centre-back possesses a footballing CV that can be matched by few, including five Serie A titles, a La Liga title and a Champions League winner’s medal.
The former Juventus defender has fantastic ability with the ball at his feet, and still possesses impressive pace along the ground. Despite not being the tallest, Caceres is a wonderful reader of the game, and possesses the uncanny knack of being able to anticipate danger before it materialises.
He would provide great cover at the heart of the Hammers’ defence, and his arrival would help instil a winning attitude at the London Stadium.
The 70-capped Uruguay international would add a certain level of know-how and nouse to the West Ham squad, and his availability on a free transfer makes a move for him a no-brainer.
