The former Norwich City man would be a useful addition to the Celtic squad this summer.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers faces an important summer ahead of him, as he attempts to make quality additions to what is already an extremely strong group of players at his disposal.
The fact that they went the entire domestic campaign unbeaten last term will mean that they will be even more of a scalp this season, and the former Liverpool manager will have to make sure he keeps his players motivated by freshening up the playing staff, and in turn, increasing competition for places.
One particular area of concern for Rodgers will be the goalkeeping department, with question marks being raised over the consistency of current number one Craig Gordon.
John Ruddy
With this in mind, Celtic should consider a move for John Ruddy, who is currently a free agent after being released from Norwich City.
The 30-year-old stopper spent seven years with the Canaries, and performed to an incredibly high level on a consistent basis. His quality is underlined by his numerous call-ups to the England national team squad, and he undoubtedly still has a lot to offer at the very highest level.
Ruddy has been linked with a move to Aston Villa already this summer, according to the Mirror, but he could be tempted into a move to Parkhead, with the lure of Champions League football always hard to resist.
The Glasgow giants will have to improve overall as a team, if they expect to achieve greater success on the European stage this season, and that will be hard to do with an error-prone ‘keeper like Gordon between the sticks.
The former Norwich man’s composure, and shot-stopping ability would surely add a level of calmness to Celtic’s back-line. His 6ft 4in frame enables him to command his area with a certain level of authority, and that combined with his overall maturity and experience could prove to be a huge asset to the Hoops this term.
And Rodgers should seriously consider bringing Ruddy to Parkhead on a free this summer – it would be nothing other than a no-brainer.
