Fulham are set to land Thomas Strakosha from Serie A giants Lazio despite the goalkeeper holding talks with Premier League moneybags Newcastle United, as reported by La Repubblica.

With Paris Saint-Germain willing to subsidise Alphonse Areola’s wages and make the Frenchman’s extended stay at West Ham something of a formality, newly-promoted Fulham are setting their sights elsewhere as they look to mark their return to the top-flight with the arrival of a new number one.

Strakosha, Lazio’s Greek-born Albania international, has no interest in extending a contract that expires on July 1st

And despite holding talks with Newcastle United recently, Fulham are reportedly on the verge of a deal that will see the 27-year-old fulfil a lifelong dream and play Premier League football for the very first time (La Lazio Siamo Noi).

“I like how they play in the Premier League,” Strakosha told The Guardian last year. “They play so fast, there are so many shots and you have so much work to do. I enjoy doing a lot of work, as it lets me show my best and gets my adrenaline up.

“I believe the Premier League has the best football. They have crazy moments in the Premier League, and the fans are so close to the pitch. It is unbelievable.

“It’s everyone’s dream to play in the Premier League.”

According to La Repubblica, via Lazio Press, the only thing missing is official confirmation with negotiations reportedly at an advanced stage. Strakosha could be unveiled as a Fulham player ‘in the next few days’.

The 6ft 4ins glovesman was initially keen on the idea of joining Watford on a free-transfer. That was, however, until the Hornets’ relegation – confirmed following Saturday’s limp 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace – all-but scuppered Watford’s hopes of luring Strakosha to Vicarage Road.

Lazio will reportedly to bring in PSG man Sergio Rico – formerly of Craven Cottage – as Strakosha’s replacement.
