Sunderland are still in the race to sign free agent Scott Fraser after the former Burton Albion talisman rejected a move to Championship newcomers Rotherham United, according to the Daily Record.
As you might imagine, given that Fraser scored nine goals and provided 14 assists in 2019/20, the 25-year-old is hardly short of offers.
And while Sunderland might have felt that they were up against it given the level of Championship interest in his signature, the Black Cats have been handed a timely boost as their pre-season preparations heat up.
Reports from north of the border claim that the former Dundee United youngster has turned down an offer from Rotherham.
Sunderland are still in with a shout, then, although Stoke City represents rather daunting opposition given their statute, fanbase and Premier League past.
In Michael O’Neill, the Potters also have one of the most highly-rated managers outside of the top-flight.

Fraser is expected to make a decision on his future within the next two weeks, although a controversial salary cap imposed by the Football League could deliver a dagger blow to Sunderland’s hopes.
As reported by the Chronicle this week, Fraser is keen on the idea of dragging Sunderland back into the (relative) big time.
But he might have to accept a wage cut to make that happen.
