Newcastle United starlet Freddie Woodman is reportedly attracting Everton’s attention.

According to a report from the Chronicle, Everton, along with Crystal Palace, are keeping an eye on Newcastle starlet Freddie Woodman and considering making a permanent bid for the Magpies goalkeeper.

Woodman appears to have the potential to play at the highest level, but the Chronicle reports that he is seeking a loan move to a League One club this term in an attempt to secure first-team football.

The desire to move into the third tier for a temporary spell certainly suggests that he has ambitions to play regularly at the highest level, and thus, it would surely be a surprise if he felt that a move to Goodison Park was the best decision for his career if the chance came up this summer.

The Toffees certainly appear to be showing the kind of ambition in this window that would mean that moving to Merseyside must be a tempting option for most players – especially when Newcastle have only signed a handful of players this summer – but their respective situations should arguably tempt Woodman to stay put, or at least, decide against making the move to Everton.

Rafa Benitez arguably does not have an undisputed number one, and while it seems too early for Woodman to break into the team, staying on the Magpies’ books may perhaps reap dividends in time if he continues to impress.

Meanwhile, one of the signings that highlighted Everton’s ambition this summer was the acquisition of Jordan Pickford, who the Daily Mail reports cost the Toffees £30 million.

Given the fee spent on Pickford and the fact that he is just three years older than Woodman, it is surely fair to suggest that Ronald Koeman would not be able to offer Woodman the kind of first-team football he craves in the coming years, and thus, joining Everton would surely be strange move for the Magpies stopper.
