Freddie Woodman was finally handed his first senior chance at Newcastle United last weekend.

Woodman signed a senior contract at Newcastle at the age of 17, but he has waited three years to be handed his first-team debut.
The England youth international was finally selected to start, as Newcastle beat Luton Town 3-1 in the FA Cup last weekend.

And Woodman admits that he feels ready to perform a regular role for the Magpies.
“I feel like I’ve done the bench role for a long time. I’ve been on the bench since I was 17,” Woodman said.
“I’m 20 now, and it’s been a long time. Every Saturday, every game I’m on the bench, I’m ready to play. I’ve just got to continue doing that.
“I had to keep my head these six months. It’s been tough not playing. I’ve just kept my head down and got on with things.”

Whether Rafael Benitez will have enough faith in Woodman to put him in regularly now remains to be seen.
It seems likely that Woodman will be demoted back to his bench warming role, when the Premier League action restarts at the weekend.
Benitez has actually admitted that he could decide to loan Woodman out in January, if he is able to sign another goalkeeper in the coming weeks.
Newcastle are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Swansea City, in a match which could be crucial to both side’s survival chances.
