When Kai Havertz first joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer, there was a lot of noise around him for the wrong reasons.

Many felt and questioned why Mikel Arteta brought him to the club because the critics thought he wasn’t needed or good enough to lead them to trophies.

You can imagine during periods of the season when Kai Havertz struggled, he was getting verbally battered from pillar to post, but you don’t hear those people now.

That’s because the 24-year-old has scored in three consecutive Premier League games and Freddie Ljungberg made it clear that he is ‘important’ to Arsenal, as he told Premier League Productions (04/03/24 at 10:10 pm).

The Highbury legend added how the German international is so technically good after his well-taken goal during Arsenal’s 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United on Monday night.

In perhaps the worst performance you will see from a Premier League team, the rock-bottom Blades became the first side in English football history to concede 5+ goals in three consecutive home matches.

But Arsenal could only beat what was in front of them, as Kai Havertz helped his team, in a closely-fought title race, further enhance their goal difference.

Kai Havertz’s technical ability

“He played well,” said Ljungberg. “He is important for Arsenal – I think he has a great left foot. I don’t care what people say, is Havertz a success or not a success. His technical ability is great.

“When he is calm like this (going through on goal against Sheffield United), he just buries them. He hits it cleanly, calmly and it was a great goal.”

Kai Havertz is leading the way

The winter break and Gabriel Jesus’ injury seemed to have done Havertz the world of good because he just can’t stop performing.

Alongside the likes of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, William Saliba and Bukayo Saka, the German is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Jesus did come off the bench against Sheffield United after returning from injury, but he doesn’t get back into the XI because of Havertz.

That’s a credit to the player and his performances, but it also strengthens the squad at such a crucial stage of the season.
