Highland League Fraserburgh have drawn Rangers in the Scottish Cup.
Fraserburgh manager Mark Cowie has told Rangers that his Highland League part-timers do not fear the challenge of Graeme Murty’s men on Sky Sports after being drawn against the Gers in the Scottish Cup.
Rangers must travel to Bellslea Park on either January 20 or 21, as both sides look to progress into the fourth round of the competition at a stadium which holds just 3,000.
Fraserburgh, who currently sit third in the fifth tier of Scottish football 17 matches, may not even have a full squad available as members of the squad look to get time off of work to face the Scottish giants.
However, speaking after the draw was made, Cowie believes his side have a chance of causing what would be one of the biggest footballing upsets in Scottish football to date, with home advantage a key factor in Cowie’s eyes.
“I’ve got guys in my side that will have to get the morning off work to play against Rangers. I just hope their bosses are football men and understand,” Cowie said.
“A lot of them are Rangers fans so they’ll be playing their heroes. But we have nothing to lose. Not one thing. It’s at home, so that gives us a chance. If a lot of things go in our favour, you never know what can happen.”
Rangers are yet to appoint a manager with interim boss Murty taking charge for the last three matches, which has seen the former Reading defender pick up two wins against Hearts and Partick Thistle but also a defeat to Hamilton.
Fraserburgh’s players are likely to look out for the Gers’ result on the weekend, as Rangers travel to Dundee on Friday night. Three points would see the Gers climb into second, before Hibernian and Aberdeen play over the weekend.
